Hubert Physical Therapy: Balance & Vestibular Therapy
What is Balance & Vestibular Therapy?
At Hubert Physical Therapy, we provide specialized care for people experiencing dizziness, vertigo, imbalance, unsteadiness, or frequent falls. These symptoms can make everyday activities—from walking through a busy grocery store to simply turning your head—feel challenging or overwhelming.
Vestibular and balance rehabilitation is a personalized form of physical therapy designed to identify the cause of your symptoms and improve your balance, reduce dizziness, and restore your confidence with movement. Whether your symptoms are related to an inner ear condition, aging, concussion, neurological disorders, or another cause, we'll create a treatment plan tailored to your specific needs.

Treatment for Vestibular Disorders
Every treatment plan is individualized based on your diagnosis, symptoms, and goals. Your rehabilitation may include:
-
Canalith repositioning maneuvers to treat positional vertigo (BPPV) by moving displaced inner ear crystals back where they belong.
-
Gaze stabilization exercises to improve visual clarity during head movement and reduce dizziness.
-
Habituation exercises to gradually decrease sensitivity to movements or environments that provoke symptoms.
-
Balance and gait training to improve stability, coordination, and confidence during daily activities.
-
Education and home exercises to help you manage symptoms and continue making progress between visits.
What to Expect During Vestibular Therapy
Vestibular rehabilitation is different from many other forms of physical therapy. Some exercises are designed to briefly reproduce your symptoms in a safe, controlled environment. While this may seem counterintuitive, carefully exposing the brain to these movements helps it adapt over time, leading to less dizziness, improved balance, and greater confidence with movement.
Some exercises may temporarily increase your symptoms during or shortly after treatment. This is a normal part of the rehabilitation process, and your therapist will monitor your response to ensure the exercises remain appropriate and are progressed at a pace that is right for you.
Treatment for Balance Problems
If you're experiencing unsteadiness or are concerned about falling, we'll identify the factors contributing to your balance difficulties and develop a personalized plan to improve your safety and mobility.
Treatment may include:
-
Strengthening exercises to improve lower extremity and core stability.
-
Static and dynamic balance training on a variety of surfaces.
-
Walking and functional mobility exercises to improve confidence during everyday activities.
-
Fall prevention strategies and education.
-
Personalized home exercise programs to help you maintain your progress between visits.
Our goal is to help you reduce dizziness, improve your balance, regain confidence in movement, and return to the activities that matter most to you.
