Is Your Health 401(k) Fully Funded?

We’ve all heard about the importance of a 401(k) for retirement savings—but what about a 401(k) for your health?

My friend Josh Billings recently shared this idea with me, and it stopped me in my tracks. Think about it: just like you save money to enjoy your later years, you should be banking your health now—so you can actually enjoy the life you’re working so hard to build. The last 10 years of your life shouldn’t be spent playing catch-up with your health, just like they shouldn't be spent scrambling to save for retirement. The truth is, if you wait until you feel the effects of aging, it may be too late to make the most impactful changes. But the good news? It's never too early—or too late—to start.

Muscle: The Ultimate Health Investment

No matter your age, movement is medicine. Exercise, especially strength training, offers benefits that no pill or supplement can match. Why? Because building muscle mass is directly linked to better health outcomes and a longer life.

✅ Increased muscle mass is associated with reduced all-cause mortality.

✅ Regular exercise lowers the risk of chronic diseases like diabetes, cardiovascular disease, cancer, and even accidents.

✅ Strength training improves bone density, which is especially important for women in the pre-and perimenopausal years. Building strength now can help prevent debilitating osteoporosis later.

During menopause, hormonal changes can have major effects on your metabolism, bone health, and overall vitality. But muscle acts like a metabolic sink, helping to buffer those changes and keep your body resilient. It’s one of the most powerful tools we have to maintain quality of life as we age.

The Myth of Injury From Exercise

There’s a common fear that exercising—especially later in life—can lead to injury. But the opposite is true. People who exercise regularly are less likely to suffer significant injuries. Why? Because strong muscles support your joints, improve balance, and keep your body functioning the way it was designed to. That said, not all exercise is created equal. There are safer, smarter, and more effective ways to train—and that’s where we come in.
